Google’s iOS App Now Displaying Accelerated Mobile Pages in Search Results

Google’s flagship app for iOS can finally display AMP pages in search results. One year after the release of AMP technology, the app is now capable of delivering these instant-loading pages in search results on one of the top mobile platforms.

AMPs in Google’s iOS app will be marked with the familiar lightning bolt icon, which is commonly seen in mobile searches on other platforms.

Recent reports indicate that AMPs are responsible for driving 7% of traffic to the web’s top publishers in the US, highlighting the technology’s growing influence. With the new support for AMPs in Google’s iOS app, it’s likely we could see an increase in this percentage in the upcoming months.

Additional Updates to Google’s iOS App

In addition to AMP support, Google has introduced a couple of other updates to its iOS app.

When searching for local businesses, users can now filter results by “Top Rated” and “Open Now.” This new feature ensures you won’t encounter the frustration of finding a highly-rated pizza place only to discover it closed an hour ago.

Another update includes support for Gboard, regardless of whether you have the alternative keyboard installed on your device. Using Gboard remains completely optional at this point. For those who prefer this keyboard or want to give it a try without installing it, the option can be toggled on and off from the app settings menu.

Feedback on version 23.0 of Google’s iOS app has been mixed so far, with users noting that it has become more cumbersome to delete search history. Consider this information when deciding whether to update.
